But don\u2019t\u00a0panic. It\u2019s actually one of the most common causes of male\u00a0infertility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ll have to see your doctor to be sure. But there may be things you can do to boost your count naturally. And they\u2019re actually pretty simple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"1-2\">What Is Low Sperm?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cnyfertility.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/increase-sperm-count-motility-and-male-fertility-1200x675-cropped.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A \u201cnormal\u201d sperm count is at least 15 million\u00a0sperm per milliliter of\u00a0semen. If you have less than that, you have what doctors consider \u201clow\u201d sperm count, called oligospermia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you don\u2019t have enough sperm, there\u2019s less of a chance they\u2019ll reach and fertilize the egg, which can lead to\u00a0fertility\u00a0problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"1-3\">What Is Quality Sperm?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.news-medical.net\/image.axd?picture=2019%2F5%2Fshutterstock_582795394.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Even if you have a normal sperm count, they still have to be healthy enough to make the journey from your partner\u2019s\u00a0vagina\u00a0to the\u00a0cervix\u00a0and uterus to the fallopian tubes. If they\u2019re not, you\u2019ll have a hard time getting them\u00a0pregnant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are three ways your doctor can tell whether your sperm is healthy or \u201cquality.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Quantity.<\/strong>&nbsp;This measures how many sperm you have in your semen when you ejaculate. Remember, you need at least 15 million sperm per milliliter of semen to have a \u201cnormal\u201d sperm count.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Movement.<\/strong>&nbsp;Doctors call this \u201cmotility.\u201d It measures how fast or well your sperm move to their final destination &#8212; your partner\u2019s egg. You want at least 50% of your sperm moving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Structure.&nbsp;<\/strong>Normal sperm have egg-shaped heads and long tails. Sperm use these tails to \u201cswim\u201d to the egg. The more normal-shaped sperm you have, the easier it will be for them to reach your partner\u2019s egg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"1-5\">Causes of Low Sperm<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/healthjade.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/low-sperm-count.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Any number of things can lead to low sperm count, including previous medical problems, age, and your environment. Your lifestyle factors in, too, so if you smoke or use recreational\u00a0drugs, they can affect your fertility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"1-6\">How Can I Help My Sperm?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Fortunately, there could be a number of things you can do to increase the amount of healthy, quality sperm your body makes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Exercise<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/res.cloudinary.com\/sharecare\/image\/upload\/f_auto\/v1486407034\/articles\/exercise-to-boost-sperm-count\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We know that moderate\u00a0exercise\u00a0can boost your mood. But it turns out that it can boost your sperm count, too. Researchers found that men who exercise at least three times per week for 1 hour showed increases in their sperm count and the number of moving sperm, as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stop stressing<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/exseedhealth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/anger-angry-anxiety-897817-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0It\u2019s easier than it sounds, but do it, especially if you\u2019re trying to have a\u00a0baby. In a study of 950 men, researchers found that males who had more than two stressful events before starting treatment for infertility were more likely to have low sperm count and motility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If you smoke, quit<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gohealthuc.com\/sites\/default\/files\/pictures\/breaking-a-cigarette-in-two.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Men who smoke are more likely to have lower sperm count, density, and motility. They also produce less semen than men who don\u2019t smoke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Say no to drugs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.parashospitals.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/No-I-am-Not-an.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Certain ones, like\u00a0cocaine\u00a0and\u00a0heroin, can affect your ability to get or keep an erection. Other drugs, like\u00a0marijuana, can make it hard for you to produce sperm. They can also reduce your sperm\u2019s motility or prevent them from developing normally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Eat right<\/strong>. Choosing a\u00a0diet\u00a0of fresh\u00a0fruits and vegetables\u00a0may boost your semen quality.
